WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app nowadays, with over 2 billion monthly active users around the globe. Over 100 billion messages are sent every day on this app and that number is increasing.
There’s a reason why WhatsApp is more popular than some of its rivals. It is quite easy to use and you can create joint chats and talk with a bunch of people in a matter of seconds. Furthermore, you can send voice messages by holding the button and basically communicate however you want.
WhatsApp does deserve its praise, but a majority of people use it for simple text messages or for bigger groups. There are some features that you probably didn’t even know existed withing the app.
You can read more about these features below. And if you liked WhatsApp so far, you will love it from now on.
1. Make Your Messages Disappear
Even though WhatsApp has assured the customer safety and the encryption, they have included the disappearing messages as well. This new feature will cause messages to disappear for specific conversations after 7 days. You can turn on disappearing messages by tapping on the contact or chat’s name and then select “On” after going on “Disappearing Messages”.
Everything that you send and receive in this conversation will disappear instead of the images and videos that may be saved on your phone right after you receive them.
2. Text formatting
Did you know that WhatsApp has some of the Office Word features integrated into the chat? If you format your text and choose either bold, italics or strikethrough option.
*This is how you get bold text*
_This is how you get italics_
~This is for strikethrough~
3. Star Messages
A simple feature that WhatsApp offers is to star certain messages. The messages we know that we will need later on can be saved. This is a convenient way to go back to find meaningful information, a phone number, address or article link your friend may have sent you but which you cannot access immediately.
All you need to do is hold the message you want to star for a few seconds then a star will appear in the upper menu, next to the forward button. Once stared, the message will be easy to find.
4. Better images and Videos?
Apparently, there is a way to send and receive better images and videos, as well as audios which are of a higher quality. You can download record and share audio files up to 100 MB and videos up to 50 MB.
Furthermore, the videos that you are sending out can be up to 7 minutes long which is a lot more time than it is now. This is a fun feature, but how do you unlock it? You will need to download the GB WhatsApp Updated version of the app to unlock this.
Some of the other features that you will get are:
- Options to hide information
- Shipping in larger quantity
- 24h online feature
- Playback on Messages
- Normal connection via the app.
If these feature sound attractive, you can find more about them if you click here. These features are unavailable in the common up, but there’s a lot more hiding there, so let’s check out what else you can do on WhatsApp.
5. Clearing out storage
There’s an easy way to clear out storage on WhatsApp. The only thing you need to do is go to Settings and Select Storage and Data. At the very top of the list, you will find “Manage Storage” and once you enter that, you can select all files and delete those.
Below the files, you will have your contacts from top to bottom. At the very top is the contact you exchange most of the information with and so on. While this is a simple way to delete excess data, you can easily check the people you often talk to.
6. Mute Conversations
If you are having a lot of groups on WhatsApp and you have to work or have an important meeting, you don’t need to shut your phone off. Instead of that, you can mute conversations on WhatsApp. With the mute feature, you can silence chatty groups where you receive hundreds of messages in a short time span and not worry about it during your meeting.
The easiest way to do this is hold a chat and then press a crossed-out speaker icon that will appear on the top of the screen. The best thing about this feature is that you can mute for a certain period – 8 hours, one week or always (when you decide to unmute it).
7. Don’t save photos and videos by default
WhatsApp allows users to automatically save every photo they receive instantly. The same goes for videos. While this is a useful feature because you don’t have to download it first when someone sends you something, it can occupy the space on your phone without you even noticing. To turn this feature off, you need to enter the “Chats” in Settings and turn off Save to Camera Roll.
With this simple fix, you will not have to save everything and you can choose what you want to save.
8. Use WhatsApp on your Desktop
There is a WhatsApp that you can install on your PC and use it. This is a useful feature that can allow you to type your messages way faster. If you are working on your PC and you have work chat groups, you can just open WhatsApp and have everything on your computer instead of checking your phone constantly.
It is quick to install it and you have to scan the code to connect it with your phone and have all the conversations up in there. It takes a couple of minutes and you are set to go.
Conclusion
WhatsApp is popular for a reason, but now that you are familiar with these features that you may not have known of, you will certainly use this app even more and use the features we mentioned.
